Norways oldest brewery chooses Norways newest solution!

The challenge

To treat brewery and soft drink wastewater so that it can be discharged direct to nature, in very limited space. Treatment methods required in accordance with BAT AEL conclusions which are “Achievable Emission Level associated with application of the Best Available Techniques under The Industrial Emissions Directive (IED) 2010/75/EU. Enforced in Norway by the Country Governors Climate and Environmental Department (Fylkesmannen – Klima og miljøvernavdelingen).

The design

Due to space limitations HyVAB is the perfect solution for Aass Bryggeri. HyVAB is being piloted with support from Innovation Norway. The complete design will include downstream particle separation to removal suspended pollutants before discharge.


The pilot is performing well in early stages with Removal efficiency of COD was >85% for total COD and >97% for filtered COD
